Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) has become a very effective weapon for those who advance their cause through terror and violence. They instantly change victim’s lives forever and are a serious threat to peace, security and sustainable livelihoods for the world’s people. Over 500 IED events occur each month worldwide - not counting Afghanistan and Iraq. IEDs are the number one cause of casualties and injuries to military and civilians in conflict and will be for the foreseeable future (www.CampaignAgainstIEDs.org).
In 2008 and 2009 where IED incidents occurred in populated areas some 90% of reported casualties were civilians. IEDs cause the top 4 injuries to veterans including: hearing loss, vision loss, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Most traumatic brain injury (TBI) in military personnel is the result of IED blast trauma and TBI patients are at higher risk for suicide than the general population. This amounts to a global epidemic of IED use. Military-focused solutions to this problem have not been and will likely not be successful. In response, Partners International Foundation (PIF) has initiated the Global Campaign against IEDs. By purchasing a bracelet you can show your support for the campaign against IEDs. Due to the thickness of the metal, it is stiff enough to retain its shape against moderate amounts of pressure, but can be carefully adjusted to change its diameter. For those customers desiring more options, these bracelets are 6 3/4" long by 3/4" wide.
